Steve deCastro Receives National Recognition from Junior Achievement USA

PORTLAND, Maine – Junior Achievement of Maine is proud to announce that Steve deCastro, President & CEO of Gorham Savings Bank in Maine, has been awarded the esteemed Junior Achievement USA Silver Award. Steve's dedication, outstanding leadership, and an incredible 25-year tenure on the JA Maine Board of Directors have earned him this prestigious national recognition. Steve is the fifth individual in Maine to have received this award.


Junior Achievement USA is a renowned organization committed to empowering young people with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in the workforce, make informed financial decisions, and become entrepreneurs. Each year, the organization honors individuals who have made exceptional contributions to its mission. Steve deCastro's recognition is a testament to his unwavering commitment to enrich the lives of Maine's youth.


Steve deCastro served on the JA Maine Board of Directors for a quarter-century, where his leadership helped shape the organization's initiatives and his guidance inspired countless students on a path toward financial literacy and future success.
“I’ve seen first-hand how instrumental Steve’s been in his work with JA over the last 25 years. He’s a tireless advocate for empowering Maine’s youth and this award is so well-deserved,” said Kevin Heatley, Chief Technology and Innovation Officer at Gorham Savings Bank and Junior Achievement of Maine Board Member. “On behalf of all of us at Gorham Savings Bank, we couldn’t be more grateful for his invaluable contributions to JA”.


In June, Steve transitioned from his role on the board of directors, but his commitment to Junior Achievement remains steadfast. He will continue to advocate for and champion the organization, ensuring that its mission continues to thrive and positively impact the lives of young people across the state of Maine.
