Junior Achievement of Maine’s (JA Maine) President and CEO, Michelle Anderson, has been confirmed as a new member of the State Workforce Board. One of five nominees, Anderson joins Christian Bartholomew of Augusta, Janet Kelle of Newport, Catharine MacLaren of Portland, Peter Parizo of Bangor, and Jason Judd of Lewiston.
The Maine Senate unanimously approved Anderson and her colleagues to the employer-led panel, which advises the governor on workforce development policy. The State Workforce Board’s purpose is to ensure that Maine's workforce development system helps Maine people and businesses compete successfully in the global economy. Its members represent business, labor, public education, higher education, economic development, youth activities, employment and training, as well as the Legislature.
“I’m honored to serve on Maine’s State Workforce Board,” shares President and CEO, Michelle Anderson. “JA Maine’s mission prepares students for success in a global world. JA Maine works with students in K-12th grade across the state to build skill sets in financial literacy, workforce development, and entrepreneurship so they can envision a choice-filled future. This addresses economic mobility and strengthens Maine’s talent pipeline. JA Maine’s work perfectly complements the efforts of the State Workforce Board, and I’m proud to be a part of it.”
Michelle Anderson assumed leadership of JA Maine in 2015, following a journey that began as a JA intern post-college. With over 14 years dedicated to inspiring Maine students, she works closely with the JA Board of Directors and JA team to lead the organizational strategy, statewide operation, and fundraising efforts to bring innovative and relevant programming to thousands of K-12th grade students across Maine each year. As a lifelong Mainer, she actively contributes to Maine’s community, serving on the Advisory Council for Live + Work in Maine and the Manufacturers Association of Maine. She is a graduate of the Maine Development Foundation’s Leadership Maine (Silver Class) and was a Mainebiz 40 Under 40 Honoree. Michelle holds a Bachelor of Science in Child Development & Family Relations and Communication from the University of Maine.
